KEVIN COSTNER ROCKS ISTANBUL –
Costner and his band Modern West made their first visit to Turkey this month and were in concert at Istanbul’s WOW Convention Centre this week. During Costners five day stay in Istanbul he attended a reception at the Presidential Palace marking Republic Day and will visit Anitkabir (Mustafa Kemal Ataturk’s mausoleum)
Global Competitiveness Report 2007-2008 – Turkey climbs up 6 spots in competitiveness:
Turkey jumped 6 spots to 53rd place among 131 Countries in the overall ranking of The Global Competitiveness Report 2007-2008 released by the World Economic Forum on 1st November 2007.
Last year Turkey was only ahead of Romania and Bulgaria among EU & EU-Candidate countries however this year Turkey passed Croatia, Greece, Romania and Bulgaria.
Turks are spending like EU Members:
Deloitte survey of 15 countries across Europe, the Middle East and Africa revealed that the Turkish Consumer is more optimistic than the European Consumer as 32% believe the economy is stable while 17.3% say it is growing.
Turkish consumers also have high expectations with 42% think that the national economy will continue to grow next year. Turkish spending power stayed the same as last year while European spending power decreased according to the survey.
So what are the Turkish buying?
Clothing is their first choice with cell phones and books as their second and third choices respectively.

Turkey is the 6th most attractive country for investment:
According to the World Investment report 2007, prepared by United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, Turkey is the 6th most attractive country for investment having attracted $20.1 billion last year.
As of August this year direct international inflows to Turkey had already reached $13.9billion.
Turkey on the Mergers & Acquisitions list 2006:
Turkey ranked 11th on the World’s largest cross border Mergers & Acquisitions list 2006.
