Izmir has got the Blues!
Efes Pilsen (Turkey’s biggest Brewers) has been hosting the Giants of the Blues for the past 17 years. Among this year Participants are Buckwheat Zydeco, Larry Garner & Band and Michael Powers.
Our local venue is the Hilton Hotel Izmir on December 8-9, 2006.

Pope Benedict XVI visits Kusadasi’s Christian Church at Ephesus:
Pope Benedict XVI said Mass today at Meryemana evi (the House of the Virgin Mary - where the mother of Jesus is traditionally held to have died).
The early Christian settlement at Ephesus was a base for St Paul.
It was also the site of the Third Ecumenical Council in AD 431 at which Mary was given the title "Mother of God".

KUSADASI URBAN REGENERATION SCHEME:
This scheme commenced in December 2005 and involved knocking down all illegal structures in the town. Delays were experienced due to the number of objections raised however, despite the opposition the Belediye have successfully revamped most of Kusadasi. This Turkey wide initiative is predicted to regulate all year round temperatures by 3 degrees, prevent the construction of other illegal buildings and enhance Kusadasi’s ecstatics.
TURKISH TOURISM STATISTICS:
In 2005 Turkish Tourism hit a record 20.5 million foreign Visitors which yielded $18.15 billion (14% up on 2004 revenues).The Turkish Tourism & Culture Minister set a target of at least 26 million Tourists for 2006 however, foreign Visitors to Turkey dropped to 2.2.million in this years first quarter. This figure represents an 11.5% fall from the same period in 2005.However, Officials are optimistic that the number of foreign visitors in 2006 will be at least 21million if not more.

TURKISH FILMMAKER HONOURED:
Tolga Ornek a Turkish Filmmaker was awarded an honorary medal (OAM) in the general division of the Order of Australia for service to developing a greater understanding of the shared history of Australia and Turkey.
His film, Gallipoli, screened in Australian cinemas last year and has become Turkey`s highest-grossing documentary and fastest-selling DVD.
The film`s Narrators, include Actors Jeremy Irons and Sam Neill.

KUSADASI FLOWER SHOW.
This annual event attracted a record number of Buyers. All Traders partaking reported an upturn in revenues.

TURKISH CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL HELD IN KUSADASI:
Yesterday, Kusadasi hosted the final of the 7th Individual European Chess Championship.
Ekaterina Atalik (Turkey) won first place and was presented with her prize while the Turkish National Anthem was played. This event was organised by the Turkish Chess Federation and there were 250 Participants from 37 Countries.

European Capital of Culture 2010 will be ISTANBUL:
Istanbul has been selected as the capital of culture in Europe for 2010 beating Kiev, the Ukrainian capital.

NBG ACQUIRES SHARES IN FINANSBANK:
It was announced today that the National Bank of Greece (NBG) acquired a 46 % share of Turkey’s Finansbank at a cost of €2.3 billion.

During his 3 day visit to Istanbul, Microsoft President Bill Gates met with Turkish students at a ceremony and announced the beginning of a project that is expected to raise household computer use in Turkey to 80%.

Sibel Tuzun an Istanbul born Singer has enjoyed many successes in several prominent competitions including Kusadasi Altin Guvercin and Eurovision selection competition.
